Cultural cavalcade – half a hundred foreign students in the Zsolnay Quarter
International PécsAround half a hundred students arrived to the Zsolnay Quarter on the first weekend of March. The aim of the visit was not only to get acquainted with the newest spectacles of the city that are unique on the European level too; but they will also decide shortly which Hungarian city and university they wish to continue their studies.

„I think it is essential that students get a first hand experience” – said Klára Somodi head of office at the PTE ÁOK Student Service Centre. „This is the only way to establish a direct connection that might help the students make their decisions later”.
The opportunity is given each year to the foreign candidates to participate in the annual one or two semester preparatory course while getting ready to the entrance exams in April and May (details: www.studyhungary.hu). Besides the lectures extra curricular programmes are also always offered to the candidates during which they get to know the cities with their cultures they have to chose from.

The bus transporting the students from Budapest arrived to the Zsolnay Mausoleum on the first spring Friday; representing the following nations in a truly cultural cavalcade: Israel, Spain, Sweden, Niger, Germany, England, Greece, Turkey, North Korea, Angola, Norway, South Africa, Iran and the Mauritius.
After having a lunch even though due to the short time available the students did not have the chance to visit all the venues on the premises of the quarter they did spend some time in the Interactive House of Playful Sciences and a group also took a look at the Pink Zsolnay Exhibition. During the indirect meeting not only the new cultural institutions of the Pécs2010 European Capital of Culture Programme were popularised, but we also campaigned for having the most possible students chose our city for the place of their studies in the near future.
